As I tried to get this thought down, I really felt like Peter. I posted it as an attempt. Still, not sure I made it all the way, but both your comments make me glad I tried.

And that's the nub of it. Whether it's something we've never done or seldom do, like flying 35,000 feet in the air, or something we should be doing but are afraid to try, the triumph, whether partial or complete, won't happen without the attempt. I pray more of us understand this as we walk together.

Re-reading the post just now, it occurs to me that I missed a key point, which I hope to explore in greater depth soon: believers should encourage one another to try. I truly think so many of us are standing on deck, looking at Christ in the distance, asking Him to verify it is He by beckoning us. Yet when we hear His voice, we look at our shipmates for support and, like the other disciples, they're too shaken up and superstitious to encourage us to try.

I wonder what I would have said to Peter had he asked, "You think it will be OK?" I want to say confidence in my belief would urge me to say, "Of course, it's OK. Jesus is calling. You'll be fine. I'm here behind you, if you need help before you reach Him."

Yet I'm not so sure.

How much different would the world be--how much more love and light would we bring to it--if our confidence in our belief and ourselves spilled over to others?

You both have given us even more to think about with this. Thank you so much--and have a terrific holiday weekend!

Blessings always,
TimTimhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01271248501086241494noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2722447614945782871.post-36509151452580593702009-09-04T17:37:31.700-05:002009-09-04T17:37:31.700-05:00Tim, this reminds me of when I flew in a plane the...Tim, this reminds me of when I flew in a plane the first few times. I prayed to God for safety. Then I had to trust Him when I was 35,000 feet in the air. We all have those moments when we begin to flounder having gone much further than we thought possible given our assumptions about our capabilities.

Going to have to think a lot about this...thanks as usual. :)Sherryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15503657383929273550noreply@blogger.com
