Not doing anything to lead our generation and those following us to a better place confesses belief we can do nothing. It minimizes us and throws dark shadows over hope. Thus, it is pragmatic for us to remain optimistic. If not us, then who?

Blessings,
TimTimhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01271248501086241494noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2722447614945782871.post-63453946318992500152010-07-16T13:09:38.475-05:002010-07-16T13:09:38.475-05:00If not optimism, Tim, at least pragmatism. It's funded by the belief the world will be better because we stand against injustice. We do our share and God gives us the land. So much of what we believe and cherish is right there. The fact the Jesus reached into repeatedly to withstand temptation is, I think, it's highest recommendation.

Happy reading!

Blessings,
TimTimhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01271248501086241494noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2722447614945782871.post-52317020214350868782010-07-10T09:58:33.141-05:002010-07-10T09:58:33.141-05:00You make me want to go back and read Deuteronomy a...You make me want to go back and read Deuteronomy again, Tim. Thank you. My favorite part of it, till now, is you shall love the LORD, your God, with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength.
But there is obviously much more to it...claire bangasserhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12380558962103134334noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2722447614945782871.post-46360273840994236892010-07-08T13:54:24.166-05:002010-07-08T13:54:24.166-05:00Sherry, I'm so glad you weighed in on this, as...Sherry, I'm so glad you weighed in on this, as your Old Testament knowledge dwarfs mine many times over. And I'm thrilled that you pointed out how future generations assembled and reworked the text. That is the spirit of it, I think, and it testifies to its power in communicating Israel's need for change.

Current mentality that Scripture is set in tone is an enormous hindrance to generation after generation, because many use it as their excuse not to defy tradition. Yet here we have Scripture that advocates change and the adoption of new mindsets. One wonders if Moses were alive today, WWMD?

Thanks again for this--and I hope you're keeping cool out on the meadow!

Blessings,
TimTimhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01271248501086241494noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2722447614945782871.post-71213897331134844252010-07-08T11:24:53.610-05:002010-07-08T11:24:53.610-05:00Wonderful analysis Tim. It seems that there is still dispute on how it came to be formulated, but most scholars believe it arose out of the Northern kingdom after the monarchy had collapsed, was brought south and was reworked. It certainly was an attempt to remind the Israelites of their true history, and urge them to return to faithfulness, something that had often gotten lost during the reign of kings.

It's a kind of back to basics manual, and we do well to harken to it's voice. You did just that, in reminding us again of its importance.Sherry Peytonhttp://afeatheradrift.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.com
